I’ve been giving and receiving massages for as long as I can remember. It comes so naturally. Giving massages as a practice, for me, has developed from helping loved ones with tension relief, to a journey of healing and experiencing universal oneness with people I encounter. A session rebalances the physical, mental, and emotional well-being for both myself and the receiver of the treatment.
I have experienced many treatment sessions with therapists from various backgrounds, and it is only until I’ve become a practitioner myself in the past 2 years that I’ve come to understand more about the artistry of this healing technique. What began as an endeavour to sort out sore muscles and bodies has led me to realise the power that touch has on mental and emotional levels when I volunteered working with vulnerable adults as a massage therapist.
I love combining the natural flow of my energy during a massage session with technical virtuosity of the Ayurvedic Yoga Massage style. It is such an earthy and spiritual, yet deeply therapeutic and precise method.
Each session follows a flow that targets the main energy centres of the body, then follows the areas that require most attention, so each session is bespoke. Depending on the receiver, it can be adapted for deeply relaxing sessions that resets the mind, body, and spirit, and for athletes who need their injuries tended to for quick recovery.
I love movement and challenges. I'm a new student of Sambo, Pole Fitness, and I've been practising Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for over a year, and Yoga for about five years. The ability of our anatomy fascinates me. It’s always a pleasure for me to continuously explore the theoretical aspects of anatomy and physiology that can help push the boundaries of my practice, and in turn transfer this energy to my receiver.
At the end of the day, as massage is so deeply personal, I believe that connection, communication, and trust between you and I is key to having a good session.
I'm currently a student of Ramu learning the Chavutti Thirumal technique (literally translates to "foot pressure") an ancient form of massage developed for the treatment of Kalaripayattu martial artists, Kalaripayattu - or Kalari Martial Arts of Kerala India, is known as the oldest form of martial arts in the world. I am honoured to be under Ramu's knowledgeable tutelage, and seek to hone this technique and incorporate it in my sessions for my clients.
For traditional Chavutti Thirumal sessions with Ramu, please visit his page here, or the link below.
If you’re keen on having a session with me, I have a little cove in Hoxton Square in central London, Shoreditch, close to Liverpool Street and Old Street. I can also visit you in your home at an additional cost if you’re within Zones 1-3 residing in Central, Northwest and East London.
Joy has a natural balance of theoretical knowledge and empathic intuition when approaching her clients. She has been awarded the ITEC Diploma in the renowned London School of Massage (2017) where she received the foundation of her studies in understanding the human anatomy and physiology, Raynor Massage Diploma from Dave Taylor Massage School (2017), famous for training therapists in "excavation" deep tissue techniques and empathic approach for the release of long-held emotional tension, and furthered her training in Thai Table Massage (2017), Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage (2017), Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (Jun 2018- Feb 2019), Chavutti Thirumal (Aug 2019-), and Northern Style Thai Yoga Massage (Apr 2021-) to deepen her knowledge of ancient massage techniques as part of her practice. Clients usually experience a profound release of muscular tension and improved awareness of their postural needs after a session with Joy.
